Mount Misery, Sudbury

Parking

Parking was easily found on S. Great Road, Lincoln. Don’t be fooled by the name, what a joyful place. No wonder Henry David Thoreau essayist and philosopher thought it worth a mention in his journal!

Hike

We hiked for 45 minutes 2.3 miles roundtrip on the red trail up the hill keeping left as the path split along a short downhill stretch with glimpses of open water through the trees on the right. As the ground leveled out, there it was, a fantastic still water bend in Sudbury River, lightly dusted with flowering water lilies and dragonflies. We met one very polite dog walker and a wet apres swim white labrador called Prince smiling from ear to ear coated in mud. If you look right up the riverbank you can also see where the river widens into Fairhaven Bay a favorite spot for nature lovers since the 1800s.

Here’s a trail map.
