Hike

We started the walk along with the train tracks built-in 1881 by the Central Massachusetts Railroad. We caught a few glimpses of Frog Pond on the right and about 1 mile into the walk crossing the bridge over Hop Brook for beautiful views of the estuary and marshes either side.

Desert consists of a large sandy area, bordered by forest about a mile along the trail. We took the Desert Loop and added in Heron Spur for a green break. The one local man we met said Hippies used to live in the desert in the ’60s and 70s in a commune. A week earlier, nesting turtles were seen watching over their freshly hatched newborn. We retraced our steps back onto Desert trail and along the rail tracks to get back to the car after a 3 mile wander in about 1 hour 10 minutes.
